Liners & Adapters

What is the purpose of having a glass liner in an inlet? I know it is unreactive, but does it serve any other purpose?

The reason I ask is this. I have an HP 5890 Series II I am setting up to sample gases from a plug flow reactor. The samples should be 99% nitrogen with the balance CO, CO2, O2, EtO, CH2O, and other hydrocarbons, which should not be very corrosive. I intend to use a 1/8â€

I assume your HP5890 has a Valco 1/16" 6 port valve and stainless steel tubing.

My suggestion is to connect the sample valve to the column without going through the heated inlet at all.

At the valve detach your gas line running from the valve to the inlet. In place of that line, install another line which passes directly into the oven from the valve. Then attach a 1/16" to 1/8" reducing union to the line and install your packed column into the union.

These components can be SS or FS coated SS. They are inexpensive and easy to install.

best wishes,

Rod

Thanks. I wish I had thought of that a lot sooner.
