ABI 5500, Waters Xevo TQ-s or Agilent 6490?

Hi to all,

I need to buy a new LC-MSMS, and I'm going to evaluate a 5500, a Xevo TQ-S and an Agilent 6490. It's an hard choice, as all seem to be performant at the same way. Of course I'll ask for demos with my real samples (food matrix).
Could somebody tell me more on these three systems? And what about Thermo TSQ Vantage? I've excluded it because it don't seem to be at the same levels in terms of performances...

There are frequent posts on that topic. This is legitimate when one is about to buy such an expensive tool.

We always reply that only demos under conditions set by yourself will give you an idea about the performances of the respective machines. Conditions fixed by yourself mean for example that you should not only send identical samples to the different manufacturers, but also impose chromatogaphy and injection volume for the best comparison possible. Ideally you should bring your samples and your column and be present when samples are injected. The instruments you mentioned are the best in their category and one is not likely to outcompete the others in terms of sensitivity, reproducbility, robustess etc. Other parameters will thus be important, such as ease of use, service in your area, and of course price. You have nothing to lose to include Thermo in the race.

The TQ-S has StepWave and 5500 can be configured with Selexion ion mobility devices, and help with determination of isobaric molecules. If your matrix not involved a lot of isomers, may not be an issue. Am not too familiar with 6490's, but general understanding, Agilents don't have the same sensitivity. There were some mechanical issues with Varian H2 602 pumps used on Waters platforms, but that was remedied by switching to Edwards E2 M28 pumps. Hope this helps.
