Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to calculate theoretical plates, tailing, and resolution using Agilent ChemStation?

select 'Extended performance report' in the report options.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I didn't get it to work. In the Data Analysis view, under the report pull-down menu, I chose 'Specify Report". On that menu I chose Extended Performance for the Report Style. When I preview the report, I get a lot of good information about the instrument run conditions and the sample chromatogram, but no performance values for the chromatogram such as plate height. Do I need to call the sample a Control sample before I run it?

Hello Karen,
you've asked for tailing, that's why sb. advised you to view extended performance report.

If you want number of plates please select performance report. There will be a column in the table on last page of report with header Plates.
And if you want to calculate hight equivalent to theoretical plate just divide column length by number of plates.

AFAIK it is not necessary to declare samples as calibration or control for extended performance report to obtain performance parameters, and for sure is not necessary for performance report.
