We were doing some troubleshooting and were advised to change the needle and needle seat on our Agilent 1367A autosampler. It seems that to do this we needed to thread the sample loop out so we were going to replace that as well. Well, it might just be us but we are finding it impossible to thread the sample loop tubing back through. I made it past the first right angle but as it proceeded to thread down the back of the machine I hit a block - and now can't move it in or out.

Looking for any hints on how to get past this conundrum as this seems to be an oft replaced part and I can't believe it is always this hard.

It is tricky repair but it is all about practise. If sample loop is bent when you try to push it through you can have problems to replace it. You can try to remove it and again slowly slowly push it until it comes out through plastic sleeve just above metering device.
If you stiil have trouble the only way is to open sampler and remove transport assembly so you have easy access to back of the unit and you can push sample loop very easy.

I would like to try to do this but I am now having trouble even getting the top off of this thing. Manual says there are clips to release but I see no clips and Agilent will not divulge the secret over the phone for removing this top without breaking it. Very frustrating situation for what is written about in the manual and shown on video as a "simple repair" to replace the needle.

With all respect...if you've never done that before better leave it for someone with experience, don't get me wrong but you can break something inside and then you will have to spend more money to fix it.
Service manual will not teach you all practical skills - removing transport assembly from sampler is something you need to see for real and not on the picture.

Yes, we are scheduling a visit from Agilent. Not even being able to get the top off seemed like a bad sign for continuing despite how much I like a mechanical adventure.
