I've been told that the EI technology was abandoned for lc/ms because the particle beam interface did not yield good data and/or sensitivity, but I have never seen any written material on this topic. Does anyone have some references for me that have been publlished rather than passed on as a conversation topic?

I would have to say that PB was abandoned more from the fact ESI was easier to use for a wider range of compounds rather than because PB gave poor data. There were many comparative studies done showing the pros and cons of ESI v PB v thermospray v APCI. The references below were the best I could come up with, though they may well cite some more useful papers. Out of curiosity why the interest in PB?
