hello
I am writing up my project and i have just written the term "HPLC grade water". I made HPLC grade water by passing water through a filter !! Is this the definition of a HPLC grade solvent ie one that is passed through a filter or is there a more official definition ?? Im also wondering what the terms analytical grade and reagent grade mean as well . Can anyone help with "official " definitions ? :?:
These commercial terms may not have an official definition (I may be wrong)

HPLC grade water is water suitable for use in HPLC. See a vendor who sells HPLC grade water and see the specifications listed. It is water that has been filtered but also contains a minumum of non-aqueous material (living organisms, minerals, etc) and there may be a dissolved gas specification as well.

Analytical grade simply means it is high purity, suitable for chemical use as a reagent or starting material in a process or reaction.

Reagent grade also means a highly purified version of the chemical.

The USP and the ACS may have offical definitions. Look up their web sites and see what you can find.

best wishes,

Rod
