Hi everybody,

We are still trying to put into regular use our newly bought (one year before), two Clarius 500 GC's with auto-injectors and Totalchrom software version 6.2.1.

Please give me answers for the following :

1. Is there any way to get a report to be displayed on the computer screen automatically after a run is completed?

2.Can somebody give me a 'user program' that can be incorporated in my method so that a report is automatically generated after the run is completed?

3.'Result' file (.rst file) is not automatically generated in the specified directory; only .raw file is generated. This scenario is after multiple installations by the service engineer. (After the installation of the software, the .rst file is generated; but from next day, it is the same old story!)

4. Is there any user manuals for TcPublisher ? (PE has not provided any).

Thanks for any reply.

To get rst files, you must process the raw files. Qs 1-3 all revolve around this. If you're setup to use your current standard average response, or run a curve at the start and base calculations on that, I think you can have rst files spit out as you go (but probably not to screen). Doing this can make the system unstable (if you have way too many integration events, let sequences get huge etc.).
If you use Grand Average or Nested Bracketing, processing will have to wait until post sample standards are complete, then everything is batched - so no rst files until then.

4. Is there any user manuals for TcPublisher ? (PE has not provided any).

I think everything you need to know is probably buried in the help files. If you want, you can probably buy a pre 6.2 manual from PE. They're ~2" thick paperback sleep aids, but they're complete, if not exciting.
Thanks,
DR

1. The report "on-screen"... I have no idea if it's possible, but probably it is. I'll try to find a way.

2. You can automatically generate a report by unchecking the "processing" checkboxes in the Setup-screen.

3. If you do this, also a .RST is generated, if it's not in the right directory, let me know: it might be a Totalchrom-setting

4. You can inform at PE if it's possible to get a copy of the map that is distributed with the TC-Publisher courses. These courses are very helpful if you really want to use TC-publisher to create complex reports (especially the possibility to use Visual Basic is a powerful option).

You can try to send a mail to TCsupportNC@perkinelmer.com . They have sent me good answers to my questions so far and often within a few hours to a day.

Good luck,

Kevin

Thank you Dr & Kevin.

Dr, .rst files are generated after batch reprocessing, but the service engineer says that .rst files will also get generated automatically and it does so initially after he reinstalls the software. From the next day it is not generated; only a raw file is generated. The problem is to ask my people to reprocess and generate a .rst file and then go to the directory and then find that file and then make the report to be displayed on the screen.... I think it is too much for regular analysis!! I thought automation will help in reducing manual jobs, but not in this case!

Kevin,

Even after unchecking the boxes "supress processing", rst files are not generated. Thanks for saying that you will try to get a result on screen after a run is completed. It will be a big relief for me to get it done.

Thank you both of you.

av ravi.

:(
I've tried to create a report on-screen after each sample, but my ideas don't work. I've tried to use PDF-factory as a printer (this should give an on-screen preview), but no result. I'm very unhappy now...
:(

I suspect your service engineer is setting his run up to batch process automatically at the conclusion fo the run (or as injections are made if he's not using "grand average" or "nested bracketing".

You can do this too.
Thanks,
DR

Dear Dr.

I was very much with the service engineer when he was in our lab; he did not do anything that i am not doing regularly. While setting up, the "supress processing" box is not clicked. What I can do now?

Dear Kelvin,

Thanks for trying.

You may have to put it in as a post run program... I *used* to use this system and I don't anymore, otherwise I could check for you...

I'm sure someone will chip in...
Thanks,
DR

Ahh the joys of Totalchrom! The hours we've spent swearing at our machine because it can't do simple tasks only to find that there is a special check-box hidden deep in a menu somewhere!

Try this.....

open up your method

find the "Process" section

click on the User Programs tab

Somewhere there is a "command Line" box in here we have $RST entered

I hope this helps otherwise I don't know where the mystery hidden button is! :D

Thanks Matt,

But all these days the $RST is present in the command line of the 'user programs' option; still no result files!

Thank you Dr,

I too think that a user program would be of help. That is why i asked in the first instance, for somebody to supply one if possible.

I too hope somebody might chip in.
Dear avrc

First exuse my english

I'm PerkinElmer service manager in my country, I have 6 years experience with TCWS & CS. Where is RST Files? I hear this question many times...

First, you must be sure that your RST files directory is right. You can verifiy this in DATA column in your sequence table. This Column can be splited in RAW & RST colunm you can do this by right clicking/unhid column and choose RAW & RST. Secondly, when you setup your sequence unchek "suppress processing" box to generate RST files as Dr told you. If you need a report generation after each injection unchek "Supress Report/plot". Third, if you batch your results you must know that the results files had the same "base file name" adding the date & time of injection to result name. Ex: if your result name is Test.RST, when you batch it the name change to Test-20060729-162130. You can make the same name by cheking "Overwrite existing result file" box in the bath window.

For your question about displaying the report automatically at the end of run, this is not possible. You must precise me which report you mean: Single injection report, summary report or suitability report?

For tc publisher I have many frech docummentation, I will try to translate some for you. Send me an email reda.radi@htds.fr

If you have any other questions about TotalChrom, don't hesitate to contact me in the forum (I'm newest :D ) or by email.

Hello Reda,

Welcome to the forum,

Thank you for your sugesstions.

Now, after my windows software has been freshly loaded, I am getting my rst files generated. one problem solved!

Regarding report generation automatically after run, I mean the results of a single injection sequence. If possible give me a user program that will automatically generate a report to be displayed on the screen. It will solve a major part of my problem.

Also, when the run is going on and if I use "Analyze Channel A", to view the result so far, I am getting the desired report (what I have mentioned in my report format column of my sequence). But after the run is over and the rst file is generated, when I go to "display report", in the rst file, it only gives me the "default report". (this default report does not have the colums I desire to have). This happens even after giving the specified rep. format file name in the rep. format column of my sequence.

Can you please explain?

Thank you.

Hi avrc,

Check what report format you have selected. You can see that in the sequence file.

Best of luck.

Hi Sadsal,

Please read my question properly. Twice I have mentioned that this problem arises even after giving the correct rep.format name in the sequence.

Any how, thanks.
