7890A/5975 ERROR 8116

I have a communications problem with a system, its a 7890A/5975. I can get the GC and MS to load and can load methods, sequences and can tune the instrument. Unfortunately when I go to run a sequence either to the auto-sampler or manual injection I get a GC error pre run download failed error 8116. The auto prep run is turned off also.

I have tried re-downloading chemstation, switching out auto-samplers and ALS controllers. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Mine does that sometimes, I cant remeber if it gives me an error # though. I have a Gerstel autoampler and if I make an adjustment to the prep/sequence it usually takes it just fine. I have no idea what causes it. So make an adjustment to the prep; for example enter in the same prep information and re save or make up a new prep with the same information and re try. This works for me see if that helps.

I tried that and unfortunately that didn't work for me. I guess I have to go ahead and call agilent and have them come and fix it, I feel so defeated :(
I am also running a 7890A/5975 system and had the same problem which was not resolved by changing sequences and method files. The way we resolved it was simply to do a complete reboot, PC, GC and MS. After that it ran fine again. As LWC said I unfortunately have no idea what causes this error.
We had a similar problem with a 7890 when trying to install a Flex autosampler, it just would not go past the prep/run when using splitless injection, it would work ok if using split injection though.

We solved the problem by loading the Default method and using it to rebuild our method, after doing that everything worked fine. I had to so the same thing on a 6890/5973 when I accidentally told it there were two injection ports. From that point on it would not step to ready because it said the second non existent port was not ready, but the part of software where you could tell it you only had one port was grayed out so you couldn't change it. Only fix was to start from scratch and make a new method.

Never had these problems when on software versions prior to E.02 :(

If you are running E02 see if you can get the version of the Instrument Control 2 macro that was released 13 months ago. It fixed a problem in coding.
I needed it on an old 6890A VOA instrument where it wasn't checking for the presence of an autosampler before trying to load the method. No response from the autosampler, no loading the method. The new instrument control2 mac dated Oct 2012 fixed that and similar problems at another of our labs. Haven't had any problems with the 7890s though.
I also have the same device. Firstly it failed during prerun then i started even the PC from the beginning. Now it turned off 8 min before the sequence ends. Probably call the sevice engineer...
Also check the remote cable that goes to the back of the MSD. Ours went bad and gave all types of problems that didn't make sense. Once we replaced it everything began working again. If you have another instrument just swap it out and see what happens.
