Shrinkage of rubber o-ring

Dear all,

I have elongated the o-ring after stretching and can't restore it to the original shape. The o-ring is thus not fitted on the groove. Does anyone know how to shrink the rubber o-ring back to normal shape? Someone told me by putting it into the freezer for a while but failed. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Just curious - is the o-ring from behind the curtain plate on a Sciex mass spec?

No, actually it's the front o-ring of the Q00 housing of Finnigan TSQ MS instrument.

If all else fails, and you have nothing to lose, you can either warm the ring until it softens ever so slightly, let it sit at that temperature for a while and then cool it down, or soak it it solvent (which one depends on what it is made of) and then try to vacuum off the vapours.

If either of these work, please let the forum know.

Good luck

Peter
