Has any attempted to clean their own degassers on a HPLC system?

I know there are a few companies that do this service, but I just wanted to see if I could do this on my own for now. We just purchased a used Shimadzu DGU-14 and it will likely need some cleaning. We have not tried it out yet.

The chambers on the DGU are very well sealed, not even sure I can open without a special tool or damaging it.
We never cleaned out our degassers. What would require cleaning, and what "residue" are you trying to remove?

If you use a buffer, can't you just rinse with similar mix but no salts?
