HPLC pressure fail

Hi,

I have a problem with a HPLC (Aglient 1100).

I changed the column and a leak occured next to the column (there was a problem with the fastening). After a few minutes of running the pump failed, the pressure decreased from 40 bar to 0 bar. Since this pressure failure, there is always a new pressure fail after 2-3 min of purching (or sample running).
Is it possible that the ChemStation (HPLC program) is somehow blocking the system, since there is no more leak in the system.

I am very thankful for every kind of help!

Mike

If your column is installed in a Column Heater, or Heated Column Compartment, then there is a sensor that detects leaks that is located at the very bottom of the compartment behind the metal column shelves in the open space in the middle. It looks like a white resistor and can be difficult to see. You have to push a paper towel of some kind down in there to adsorb all of the leaked liquid and dry the sensor or it will continue to give the leak signal and stop the instrument.

I usually twist a paper towel into a long thin shape then push it down to the sensor and soak up the liquid, after that it stops giving the leak signal.

Also check the upper pressure limit on the software.

Indeed, I found the wet part.

Thanks a lot!
