Hi, there:

I am looking for an alternative HPLC column for Mac-Mod ACE Phenyl, which has 10nm pore size, 300square meters per gram surface area, and 9.5% Carbon load. It is also endcapped. I would appreciate it if you could recommend anything similar.

Several manufacturers have phenyl columns. Waters has several phenyl columns. However, as it is the case with C18s, phenyls are usually not completely alike, even if the numbers look the same.

I am also looking for an alternative column, to Dionex's DNAPac PA100. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I want to do an anion-exchange separation of a protein, pI 4.6. So far I cannot get a good separation with Tosoh's TSK gel DEAE 5PW column, because the protein is being retained too strongly by the stationary phase (carryover lasts sevaral injections).

I read of a method that uses the DNAPac, and I want to try it out, but the column is too expensive.

For the Ace Phenyl I would recommend the Varian Pursuit Diphenyl.

Do you have a problem with the Ace?

Phenomenex recommends as direct alternatives Gemini C6-Phenyl to Ace Phenyl and Asahipak IEC to Dionex DNAPac.

Not trying to be funny at all, just not surprised that a manufacturer would recommend their own column.

I don't make or sell columns, only use them so I hope to give impartial advice.

Of course this is not the place or ocasion for private discussions but in previous posts you have made mentions similar to mine concerning products from Varian, Daicel, etc.

I do not know how you assume YOUR opinions are impartial and mine not... I expect to see your politically correctional comments towards other people clearly connected with a manufacturer in this forum...

By the way, I do not see any problem for someone to recommend his (or his employer) product as he/she would be convinced it is the best solution. I would not bang political correctness flags to this! (Although I must admit that to me is a bit annoying to have someone continuously using this forum as a marketing / selling tool...).

Of course I have my personal simpathy with some manufacturers, as you and any human being certainly have. I prefer American and German cars rather than Japanese and French ones... so waht?!
