benzoic acid low response factors

All,
I have noticed that benzoic acid has really low response factors, both by UV absorption (230 nm and 272 nm) and also by negative mode ESI, compared to related aromatics, such as 4-OH-benzoic acid.
Does anybody have any explanations for this?
