Waters 474 FLD / Agilent 1100 HPLC

I'm the happy recipient of a donated Agilent 1100 HPLC system (Model G1312A Binary HPLC pump, Model G1313A Standard Autosampler, Model G1314A Variable Wavelength Detector, Model G1316A Thermostatted column compartment) with ChemStation B.4.03.
I have recently come across a very cheap Waters 474 fluorescence detector, and am wondering whether it's even possible to interface this detector to the Agilent system.
Issues/thoughts that come to mind:
- band broadening (which is okay-ish, since I'm looking at very simple systems)
- can Agilent even control non-Agilent instruments?
- can ChemStation just read input voltages?
- I could get another computer, maybe?
Thoughts/advice much appreciated!
Thanks,
Sarah

Sarah - you can run the Waters detector as an external detector, we did stuff like that routinely. With your 1100 and your software level, you'll need a Agilent 35900E external A/D box; there are versions for whether your system is connected with GPIB cables or with LAN cables (we had one of each, and difference is a small circuit board).
I am not aware if there are non-Agilent alternatives to do this, but electronics sure zoom forward.

This is really helpful—thanks! Also, I noticed that you (I think?) were selling used equipment like this earlier this spring; do you still have one of these available?

Sorry, all I had were the internal 35900D A/D circuit boards that went into earlier computers used with ChemStation, like with Pentium 1 computers with early ChemStations.
I corrected my first post to be Agilent 35900E, which is dual channel A/D box, like which can sell for under $1000

I think that the 35900E is the only A/D still sold and supported by Agilent. However, I'd contact Agilent first as to what would work, as there may be older single channel A/D boxes too that would be fine. Maybe call 1-800-227-9770 and ask a telephone tech. I see 35900C models listed, don't have any knowledge about those.
For all I know, maybe there is a USB analog-to-digital converter available these days from somebody.

The C, D and E series will all work as long as they have the HP-IB interface. If you have the upgraded LAN version of the 1100 you'll have to add a HP-IB card to your computer
