non-injection method with Masshunter data acquisition

Hi All,

We are new to Masshunter data acquisition. We try to transfer Chemstation sequences (GC) to Masshunter. Two things we used to do with Chemstation sequence: 1) if we leave blank in the vial cell in the sequence table, there will be no injection at the beginning of the method run 2) if multiple runs for the method out of the same vial, we use >1 in the inj/vial cell and the method will run multiple times. We are trying to transfer these two functions into Masshunter data acquisition sequences. Called Agilent, no satisfied answer yet. Masshunter do not take blank or 0 for the vial cell. We do not want any injection step at the beginning of the method run. We also could not find inj/vial or similar in the sequence configuration for multiple runs. Any idea for solving these two issues? Thank you for any suggestion you might have.

Katherine,

I am not a mass spec user or masshunter user, but the following works with the normal ChemStation. Talking with a colleague who is familiar with masshunter, thinks it may work.

1. Configure a valve on your GC to be a Gas Sampling valve. This can be done even if you do not have valves installed on your GC.
2. Select the injection source as the gas sampling valve.
3. Save the method using a unique name such as blank.m
4. Set up a sequence and enter '1' for the vial number and using the method 'blank.m'

Now run your one line sequence and see if it works.

If it works, then just include this entry into your normal sequence table.

Hi Gasman,

It works. Thank you very much for your suggestion. The old trick in Chemstation is easier (no separate method for non injection). This is a great work-around for Masshunter (a new method with valve as injection source).

Any suggestion for my other question about multiple runs for same method? For example for 5 multiple runs, in chemstation, we put inj/vial = 5 in the sequence, the same method will be run 5 time. With a long sequence with many multiple runs, we can save time when building a sequence.

Dear Gasman

Do I choose valve instead for ALS when I want to run a no-injection blank using masshunter?

Thank you
best regards,
Noemi

Yes, just select the valve as the injection source and make sure that the method you will use has this set.
