I changed the hydrogen feeding the FID and this stopped the majority of the baseline rise. It still goes up 500 uV, but at least it's smoother.
Now I have trouble with missing solvent peaks! The column definately has a flow (bubbles through MeOH) and the FID is lit and responding to the odd tap with a pair of forceps. The liner has been changed along with the septa. Even a manual injection of solvent goes nowhere!
What next?

To really screw things up, you need a machine.
