You know if there is a mathematical relationship between the retention time and peak area?

They are, for the most part, unrelated.

Area is a function of the extinction coefficient of the analyte (assuming we're talking about UV/VIS detection), its concentration and the wavelength(s) monitored.

Retention time is a function of the resolution equation which takes partition coefficient(s) and physical parameters (column length, packing properties like size and pore size, and column diameter) into account.

Have you looked into the tutorials linked among this forum's sticky posts?
If not, please do so as they do a better job of covering this stuff than i do.

Yes, area of the peak can vary as the retention time varies when HPLC conditions are changed.

In my job there were so many projects "in queue" that I never needed or wanted to learn why this was so, just was important to know that it can vary as conditions are changed.
Nice to hear from CPG and DR (I have missed your Felix the Cat icon posts - always made me smile :-))

There is no mathematical relationship between analyses under the same conditions- think about it :-)
