GC calibration standard calculations

Can someone point me in the right direction? I'm looking for more detailed information about preparing calibration standards specifcally internal standard. I would like to gain a better understanding of the calculations.

This is the generic EPA chromatographic method for hazardous waste organics. The standards section was written by an old GC/MS guy so there is a certain bias to it. More details are in the specific methods. (8260, 8270 etc.)
