Bits of septum stuck to insert assembly

Hi, this is probably a simple one, but could someone please help. I've got bits of septum stuck to my insert assembly (almost certainly due to overtightening). Is there a solvent that I could use to sweep away the bits of septum? (I'm using the GC with quite a sensitive mass spectrometer.)

Thanks

I suppose it depends on the type of GC and septa you have. I use thermogreen septa on my 5890s and 6890s. If I notice an edge that remains after removal for replacement I will use the wood end of a swab to scrape the septa free, then moisten the cotton end with methanol to clean up any small particles.
