How to get a LPGC (Low pressure Gas chromatography) System

Hi all.

I have a standar Single quad GCMS-QP and a Triple quad GCMS-TQ. I listened in a conference that is possible to adapt those systems to a LPGC(Low pressure gas chromatography) system, putting two columns in serie with different ID.

The column connected to the MS is usually a narrower one, and the other is at atmospheric pressure.

Is it true? does anyone of you ever try it?. I heard that improves the resolution of the peaks and get faster results.

Does anyone recommend any literature about this? or any technical information.

I´ll appreciate any comment.

Check out the Restek website and/or do a google search for Jaap de Zeeuw as an author

The main advantage is speed - the optimum linear velocity for the carrier gas goes up as the pressure goes down.
