I would like to know if the column OV5 is similar to HP5. Someone can help me? :?

In theory, OV-5 is similar to all other -5 phases (5% phenyl-95% dimethylpoysiloxane), such as HP-5, ZB-5. DB-5, etc...

Depending of course of manufacturing process and marketing policies, some columns are more reliable, more durable and less expensive...

This site will give a list of similar columns as was posted in the previous post by elazul. Note the different way of naming columns by Varian (CP-SIL 8 ~ DB-5)

With regard to Varian column naming their newer FactorFour columns follow the more conventional naming system, Vf-1, Vf-5 etc.

The "funny" names of Varian columns were inherited from Chrompack - do not ask me how they called these names!

Wisely they will tend to go to normal nomenclature for new products... :D
