Grob Test

Hi All,
I have just bought a grob test mix and the chromatography I get is good except the 2,3-butanediol. For this I get 2 peaks (the 1st is half the size of the 2nd). They both have the same mass spectra. All grob tests published have one peak for the 2,3-butanediol. Does anyone have the same problem? I am running a RTX5 both on MS and FID and the problem is the same. Injection split 100:1 1mlmin helium 0.1ul inj 250degC.
Best Regards

They are the two diastereoisomers. To get one peak you either need to obtain one of the diastereoisomers or the meso- form. I didn't bother - I just used the twin peaks as my column performance reference point.

I just realised you said you bought the mix. I made up my own Grob mix and could only blame myself. Where did you buy it ?
