Quantitation of Polymerized Glycerides and Esters

Hi all,

New to HPLC, thinking about buying a HPLC setup for quantitation of polymerized c14-c22 triglycerides and/or methyl esters if possible. I have read some AOCS and IUPAC literature on it, is typically performed with silica gel or DVB packed column and Refractive Index Detector. These methods were developed in the early 90's I was wondering if newer columns/phases and detector would be appropriate. online literature found here: http://lipidlibrary.aocs.org/OilsFats/c ... mber=39204

If you are buing new HPLC to analyss those compounds you have mentioned I would consider buying a ELSD or CAD (Corona) detector.
Those detectors have much more sensitivity than a RID. You can use gradients to your separations. There are also some disadvantages like: mobile phase has to be volatile like in MS detector. But those compounds are maily fats and fats goes with normal phase chromatography or HILIC so there should be no problem with mobile phase being not volatile.
