Trace GC Ultra "Door open" Error

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Hello, I am a chemical analist from Chile, so in advance I apologize if my English is a bit off!

We have in our Laboratory a TSQ QUANTUM XLS coupled to an Trace GC Ultra. The gas chromatograph has been used since the year 2011, and had a problem before with a bad eeprom board, which as been resolved since.

We have been inyecting with no problem until yesterday, when after cooling, the led screen showed that the door was open when in fact the door was closed shut. We verified that the door was correctly closed. The cooling flaps in the back were opening and closing continously.

The set temperature after the analysis is 40 °C, and because of the opening cooling flaps, the oven could not reach it and stayed at 38 °C aprox., while the "Door open" warning kept flashing in the oven section of the led screen.

We tried rising the temperature to 100 °C with the oven door open, while pressing the clutch that tells the system that the door is closed,to see the behavior of the cooling flaps, but the cooling flaps still moved up and down.

We tried to follow the cable that runs from the sensor in the front that tells when the door is closed, to the connection of this cable to the boards in the back of the gc; unplugged that cable, and plugged it back. For a moment the error was gone, but it returned.

We really are not sure what could be the problem, and if anybody could direct us in the rigth direction, that would be very apreciatted, because here, the technical support is very slow.

Thank you for reading this, and best regards!

Felipe
You probably already did this but did you cycle the power to the GC (off/on). You may want to leave the unit unplugged for 10-15 min to discharge? I've seen plenty of strange things occur with equipment that is on all the time that clear when powered off/on.
