I have today been optimising my 1079 with wool/no wool/some wool and then having to troubleshoot my way back to "square one".
I have noted the relevance of using a new ferrule each time I insert the liner and cleaning the gold insert that the ferrule lodges on.
Armed with this info I will save myself some time in the future.
The main symptom was lots of wide previously injected compounds and high noise generally (therefore I was about to check out the split line/carrier line).
Hope I may have helped someone out here - I know there have been many 1079 Trap type questions lately.
