well i amm trying to separate a diquaternary surfactant from a monoquaternary surfactant by preparative gravity column chromatography. And iam trying mixtures ofacetonitrile and acetone with liquor ammonia with little success. Any ideas and suggestions please[/b]

These stick firmly to silica gel at alkaline pH by ion exchange, and to residual silanols on reversed phase columns. Once, just to prove a point, I made a "reversed phase" column by coating silica gel with hexadecyl-trimethyl-ammonium. To elute the surfactants you will want to lower the pH to protonate the silica.
