Dear Chromatographers.

I would like to know if it´s possible to purge VOCs from water and soil with Nitrogen but desorbing with helium in an Atomx system coupled to a GC/MS.

Thanks in advace.

I haven't used an Atomx but I know it will work on an Encon. Normally the desorb flow comes from the carrier flow which will be Helium if you are using Helium carrier, and the purge flow comes from a separate inlet at the back of the purge and trap. If the Atomx is setup this way it should be possible.

EPA Method 524.4 is specifically written for this type of setup, you may look in that and see if they list the Atomx as one of the purge and traps used in development.

Yep, possible both for water and soil to purge with nitrogen with helium as carrier gas in GC-MS.

Teklink has an option for nitrogen purge under Tools\configuration\options
