is it possible to acetone for reverse phase HPLC?

Yes, basically it is possible to use acetone (and it actually has a quite high elution power, higher as acetonitrile) but the UV-cutoff is pretty high. I don't remember exactly but I think it's higher than 300 nm, so working in the usual UV range is rather impossible.

If you plan on using a UV-Vis/DAD for detection chances are you're out of luck. If you plan on using refractive index, it should work.
