hi
I am a new chromatographer . and i have a question .. how can i put my GC into a "sleep'' mode? is there any possibility to programme it automatically after a couple of injections ?

Usually it is possible.

Hello
The best way to do it is to create method (based on one you're normally using) and set parameters:
-minimal flow through column (0.2-0.3 ml/min)
-minimal spit flow (total flow through inlet should be about 5-10 ml/min)
-oven off or with temp in any acceptable range for column
-detector gases off (H2, Air), you can leave reference/makeup on minimal flow (2-5 ml/min)

thank you , but is there any possibility to programme it automatically after a couple of injections?

Hello
Of course it is. If you're running sequence just set up blank injection as last run with "standby method" I recommended in previous post.

Hello,
well, this worked for an older Chemstation.
With our OpenLab CDS Rev. C.01.03.[37], this approach leads to a "never finishing sequence", and stays in the "in progress" status.
How can this be avoided?
Thanks.

You can load in the sequence any method you want...so if your method has no hydrogen and air flow you will run method with no FID flame.
I've got Open Lab ver. C and it is working fine.

Hello,
I guess it depends partly on what happens when the sequence is finished.
As far as i observed it, the possibilities are:
A) The instrument falls back into the method loaded prior sequence run
B) The sequence does not finish at all as the final run with the standby method has no end.
In the latter case this sequence is flagged in the Data Analysis view as "in progress" which is not helpful..
How do you avoid that?

Hello
Just create Standby method that is 1 min long, no Air, no Hydrogen, makeup 5 ml/min and it is done.
When standby method is completed (sequence completed) instrument will stay with those parameters

For anyone using MSDChemstation, the program will default to the last loaded method before the sequence began. If you are using that program then you load the standby method before starting the sequence, once last sample is acquired it will default back to that. I don't know if the CDS version will do that or not.

I created a Standby method. When i have to run samples, first i load the analysis method to warm up the instrument.
Durint the equilibration time you can write your sequence, do air/water check and so on.
Right before running the sequence i load the standby method and "run" the sequence (which contains the analysis method) as soon as possibile.
it will take a few second to rewarm and then start...when the sequence is done it will reload standby method and you can sleep happy, knowing gases are not being wasted.
