hi everybody,
how many types of ms detectors are there? i would like to know in details. please anybody give me some feed backs where i can get the details.

You can generally divide mass spectrometers into the following categories:

quadrupole
ion trap
magnetic sector
time of flight
hybrids / multifocus

F. W. McLafferty has written numerous books on mass spectrometry.

Quadrupoles and ion traps are typical for commercial bench top instruments.

I would add fourier transform ion cyclotron mass spectrometers.
Also, nowadays time of flights have became also typical bench top instruments...
