Hello guys. You as managed backup raw data software no longer in use ? given that without the software is unable to open the data .

The manufacturer usually provides an export function to eg NetCDF.
or use a Data file converter, and save it in a non proprietary format that is currently supported.

mzXML, uses more disk space, but can be read in notepad.

When I was working, our pointy-haired boss spent THOUSANDS of dollars to have such old data converted to a newer format (which apparently was only partially successful) and then updated our instruments and software to OpenLab which cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Of course: our results were no more accurate with the new systems and software...

Every time we retire and old instrument with obsolete software, I try to keep the PC in storage just in case I have to bring back the old data. We have the data backed up on a file server and tapes, but sometimes you just can't make old software work on new operating systems so if I can keep at least one copy on an archived PC that helps a lot.

Once our 5 year data retention period has expired I can then dispose of the old PC.
