Hello all,

I'm now working in a lab that is using the Trace 1310 series dual column GC's made by Thermo Scientific. There are 4 of them all around a year and a half old; 2 with dual ECD's 1 with ECD/NPD and the final with ECD/FID. 3 of the 4 have been having ridiculous problems with parts going out. One with dual ECD's has had one ECD go out & replaced and both Thermo auto samplers burn up & replaced. The ECD/NPD one has had the power block (the part with all power & computer connections) replaced, an ECD replaced, and the whole NPD module replaced. And then the ECD had to be replaced again because the new one was causing the GC to lose connection to the computer. The other dual ECD GC has had a total of 5 ECD's go out & replaced, 4 of which have been in the last 6 months. Surprisingly the ECD/FID GC hasn't had any major problems. Basically these things have been a problem for the lab since day one. I've been here about 5 months and I have had nothing but trouble with them.

To make my disclaimer, I'm not trying to say anything bad about Thermo or their products or giving their GC's a bad review. I am just stating what has been going on with the instruments in our lab.

From my understanding these GC's are pretty new to the market, maybe out for 2-3 years. My question is have any of you had experience with these GC's and if so have you had similar issues with them? or have they been working fine? Maybe our lab got some of the first batches that hadn't had all the bugs worked out.?
