I have the agilent 5973 probe-ms and when I open chemstation it brings up the source and quad temperatures and they are supposed to be around 250 but both of them are at room temperature and will not heat up. I get error 400 and it says system is in high vent state. any ideas what to do?

Welcome to the forum.
Let's start with what is probably too obvious - pump down.

Are there any issues with the rough pump? The pump that is separate from the GC/MS, is that pump on and working?

Is the door closed all the way? You should hear the difference when it seals with the rough pump working. I have a 5973 where the door isn't quite flat anymore and have to hold the door closed when I start the pump down.

Hello
I'd recommend:
1.Check fan that is cooling turbo pump - if it has a lot of dust or it is damaged you can have error like that. You need to remove front cover to have access to it. Try to clean it from dust or order new one.
2.If you have problem with heating (ion source) perhaps fuses are blown. There are 2 fuses on the side board. To have access to it you need to remove front cover and metal cover that protects boards (in fact you should remove box with boards).
If you've never done this before perhaps you should ask someone who knows how to do it.

If the system is in a vented state you need to check the side panel (door). When the system looses vacuum the door can pop open.
You checked that the vent valve is closed, so unscrew the connections that hold the door closed ( if you folks use them). Close the door and while pushing firmly on the box with the rubber feet power on the mass spec. This should turn the rough pump on and then the turbo should spin up.
Good luck
