I'm struggling to get the method that I'm using to save a report format template. There's a pdf version from fastgcchromlab (http://www.fastgcchromlab.com/cl/tips/t ... m-Tips.pdf) pg. 28 that I've been following to resolve this issue, but it isn't helping. I've tried going into the method itself under the "optional format report" tab and linking it to the template that I want to use and saving it there, but it still resorts back to the default report. I did notice that when I use the shortcut i.e. Ctrl+O to open report format editor and Ctrl+S to save my changes the report saves, but when I reopen to check, I get a message saying "error opening files."

What I am not seeing in that PDF you linked is the processing of your raw data files. I was always taught that you had to batch your files and then load the result files into the report tool.

It's been a long time since I have used TotalChrom ...

I'm not sure if I follow the OP question. Are you just trying to save a report format and then associate it with a method file? If I'm not mistaken each method file has a corresponding report format but when you create your sequence you can force it to use any report format you choose. Open up any sequence file, along with columns for name, vial, type, etc are columns for "Method" and "Rpt Fmt File" you can change the latter to any report format file you want.

The optional report tab in the method file is just that, "Optional" . It's secondary to the report format specified in the sequence. With the optional reports tab you can list and additional 6 report formats that will be generated when the method is run.

If I totally misunderstood your question let me know. Maybe some more details may help.
