Issues connecting an HP1050 79853c using an NI GPIB card

Hi Everyone,

I have been working to get an old HP1050 VWD to read on NI MAX using an NI IEEE GPIB card and have been able to "see" the instrument but shows 30 different instruments connected to the card. Some don't respond to the idn query and others do but send out garbage data. I have tried installing chemstation 6.0.3 but from seeing the io library config, I suspect that I can only use specific HP-IB cards to communicate with the instrument. I have also tried installing various io library suites but the same communication issues occur as in NI MAX. Has anyone been able to successfully connect and communicate with the HP 1050 to get an output voltage for absorbance units? Any help will be much appreciated!!!! :D

We have used A.06.03 with Windows 2000, Windows NT4, and Windows95, haven't tried here on other versions of Windows. We just decommissioned two 1050 systems last year, parts are available, reasonable with USA shipping. We used #82341 or #82350 GPIB boards in the computers to communicate with the 1050 stack, pretty straightforward; I have both types of GPIB boards available. If interested, post your E-mail address (such as abc -at-123.com) and I'll reply by E-mail and ask you to make legitimate offer; I can do PayPal, money order, or check - no credit card or P.O.

The older 82335 HPIB boards go into even-older computers, and apparently are compatible with Win95 and A.06, and I have some of those too.

See the Agilent Chemstation compatibility chart for more information; note that the chart does not state Win2000 and A.06 (not certified as compatible) but we've used that combination with 1050. https://www.agilent.com/cs/library/Supp ... a10674.pdf

Agilent/HP analytical instruments intentionally use proprietary protocols - they would not answer IDN? queries.

Only MS machines handle IDN?.

So your destiny - either reverse the protocol or use Agilent Chemstation.

Older Chemstations likes IEEE host controller to be named hp82350 or hp82341 - regardless they are actually Agilent or NI cards. Please make sure the SICL names are such as required, VISA names has not to be in conflict.

Agree with antonk: You have a SICL/VESA resolution issue. Make sure the cards are named properly.
