Hi,
I have just started working with a Clarus 580 GC from Perkin Elmer and keep getting a pattern of spiking in the baseline. It occurs with all samples and blanks. Sometimes it is more drastic than others. Has anyone dealt with this before? What could it be?

Welcome to the forum.

There is a long list of possibilities; electronics, electrical interference, loose connections, water in the FID gasses or carrier gas, dirt in the detector .......

If you post a chromatogram we will be able to narrow it down and suggest some troubleshooting. Posting instructions are in a sticky on the LC page.
