Does anyone know how to switch the lamps in a ProStar 335 detector off remotely via Star Chromatography workstation? We sometimes have runs that finish in the early evening which means the lamps are left on for several hours doing nothing.

Hi,
You can set up a sequence list (file-> new squence list). The first line is inject (for action) and enter method name and sample list name. On the next line of the sequence, the pull down menu under "action" gives you a series of options including lamp off and pump off.
If you wish, you can drop the flow rate on the pump prior to turning the lamp off by having the second line of the sequence as "inject", then a different method (with a low flow rate), and a separate sample list (personally I have a vial of solvent in the final position on the autosampler and call it dummy so it never gets confused with real sample lists).
In terms of lamp life, my understanding is two things are at play: how long the lamp is used and how frequently you turn it on and off. It was suggested to me that sometimes you're better to leave the lamp running if you're going to be using the instrument the next day.
