Hello to everyone

I am writing to you out of despair. I would like to know ANY kind of information related to the Varian Upper Power Board ASSY 03-930220-01 Rev 2 (Manifold Upper PWA). It belongs to a Varian Saturn 2200 ion trap mass spectrometer

The error report of the MS Workstation (v 6.6) is:

17:04:32 Diagnostics: Started
17:04:32 System Test: Started
17:04:37 System Verification Results
17:04:37 Basic Hardware Test: Passed
17:04:37 Vacuum Test: Passed
17:04:37 RF Test: Passed
17:04:37 Waveform Test: Passed
17:04:37 Acquisition Test: FAILED
17:04:37 THE MULTIPLIER VOLTAGE IS SET TO 2000 V BUT READS -6 V. LIKELY CAUSES INCLUDE:
17:04:37 THE MANIFOLD ELECTRONICS ASSEMBLY IS DEFECTIVE (MULTIPLIER SUPPLY).
17:04:37 Basic Heater Test: Passed
17:04:37 Ionization Test: FAILED
17:04:37 FILAMENT 1 IS OPEN.
17:04:37 Diagnostics: FAILED.
17:04:37 System Test: Completed
17:04:37 Diagnostics: Completed

Things that would be very helpful

-the schematics and operational specifications of the board
-the expected parameters to be tested (there are several test points TP in the board, but i do not know what to expect)
-contact of a person with technical experience in this matter
-specification of at least of some of the main components (some of the components are easily searchable, others are not. most of them obsolete)
-An in-depth hardware manual of the mass spectrometer

to sum up, anything that would be useful to isolate the malfunction

We know for sure that this is the faulty board because we managed to borrow another one from other institution for a couple of hours. The error was not reported when that board was in place.

I have been reading the forum and found a similar problem solved by simply correcting the contact between the multiplier leg and the pin: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25023. I have checked the conductivity of both ends with a multimeter (beep test) and there is connection, so I doubt that is the same problem.

I would appreciate any guidance in this matter

Thanks in advance

PabloY

Hello Mark, no, not for sure. We assumed it was due to some electrical power surge, but we are NOT certain. By replacing this board with another from a twin equipment the fault is no longer reported.

Thanks for your reply

Best regards
