I've seen a few messages here about looking for trace levels of genotox impurities in APIs by GC. As part of a major pharma company we're actively looking in this area and are purchasing a GC triple quad system (Micromass Quattro Micro) for this purpose.
Looked at QqQ vs trap in demos, QqQ was giving over 1000x sensitivity for real genotox compounds in real APIs compared to ion traps. I already run a GC time of flight MS, while this gives better sensitivity in full scan than a typical quad in SIM it's nowhere near a triple quad using MRM.
We're also looking at sample prep methods for these applications.
Would be interested hearing your thoughts either here or to genotox@analytical.org.uk
