Hi
I want to analyze some simple aliphatic amines (e.g. ethylamine, diethylamine, triethylamine) by LC-MS without derivatization. Has anyone done this before?
It would be appreciated if you could specify analytic conditions.
Thank you.

Sue

I haven't but chloroformate (methyl ethyl or n-propyl) derivatization works very well on amines and all you would need is a GC-FID. There was also a paper on trifluoroacetylacetone to form enamines that also looked pretty simple.

Have a look at http://www.sielc.com/Compound-Diethanolamine.html. You can replace TFA by ammonium formate.
