Hi,

It is a requirement for the firewalls to be disabled in Empower 3 LAC/es for them to function. We are having infrastructure/security folks tell us that we must connect using a firewall. What type of effort would go into mapping the ports?

I understand that Empower uses so many ports, that it is prohibitive to have the firewall on.

Thanks,
Matt
In Empower, instruments generally communicate through IEEE (BUS/LACE boards) or through ethernet using secondary NICs assigned to a subnet, so that they never see the "outside world". The LACEs themselves are best configured as normal workstations but with static IP addresses and all anti-virus/malware/port scanning etc. stuff set to exclude the Empower folders. As the instruments are part of a subnet, there's no reason to have a firewall between them and the LACEs... if that what your IT guys are talking about.

If that's not it, have them talk to a Waters informatics specialist about how to deal with the issue.
Thanks,
DR
