Fatty acid analysis

Discussions about HPLC, CE, TLC, SFC, and other "liquid phase" separation techniques.

Hello All,

I have a student who wishes to conduct an analysis of fatty acids. They are Anandamide (arachidonylethanolamide), 2-AG (2-Arachidonylglycerol), and Palmitoylethanolamide. Does anyone have any ideas about the required conditions / mobile phase (I can only do isocratic analysis) or where I should look?

thanks

Jon

Jon,

I happen to have some experience analyzing surfactant related compounds. I believe these three are in this catagory. Here is what I would start:

Column: a RP column (C8 or C18), 4.6 x 150 mm, 5 micron should be sufficient

Mobile phase: acetonitrile/D.I. H2O (or NH4OAc buffer for better ELSD response)

Flow rate: 1 mL/min

Detection: ELSD

Here is a link for mor information on surfactant analysis using Acclaim Surfactant column, for your information.

Good luck,

Thx XL, that's a good place for us to start

To me, these are just common neutral organics,
