What is the purpose of using inorganic salts (sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate etc.) in GC solvents for analyzing residual solvents in APIs?

The only reason to add salts to samples in chemical analysis to me is to make the matrix inhospitable for the analyte. You add salt to water solutions to drive a somewhat water soluble analyte into the headspace to improve the detection limit. You add salts to water to drive analytes into the organic solvent you're using to extract the analyte from the sample, etc.
