I updated AMDIS via a download, and I now get a "Cannot read GC/MS data file" message when I try to open a data file, either from AMDIS itself or via the Bruker MSWS data analysis screen export to AMDIS button.

I have selected Varian.xms as data type, and AMDIS lists the files in its open file dialogue box, but cannot open them.

Any tips ?

Thanks

Does your program run from within MS Windows? If so just for kicks select in Windows to show all hidden folders and files, You can Google for specific versions of Windows as to where to find the option(s). I do not have your program so have never run into your issue but I have had a few programs that run under Windows that would hang, crash or error with "can not read" before with the hidden folders/files enabled. It's worth a try as it doesn't hurt anything (unless you start playing with the former hidden from view system files). You can always re-select to hide the folders/files if you find that it doesn't work in your case. Good Luck!
Hi Scottythree

Yes, it's running windows. I'll give you idea a try when I get back to the lab.

Thanks Peter

Hi Peter,

Did it help or was there another solution to open your .xms files? I have the same problem and enabling 'hidden files, folders and drives' does not help.

Thank you,

Kamila

No, it didn't. I used other software to convert the file format, and then AMDIS could read it, but AMDIS was no use at all for what I need to do so I gave up on it. I now use AnalyzerPro from www.spectralworks.com.
