What can carboxen-1000 separate?

Hi,

I want to detect C2 or C3 hydrocarbons. I have GC-2014 Shimadzu with carboxen-1000 in my lab. I've read several papers about this column. I think it can separate those hydrocarbons well. However, I have tried to detect some samples such as ethylene and ethane, but there were no peaks in the process.

The procedure I am using is the following: Carrier gas He (30 ml/min). 45°C (5 min) to 200°C at 10°C/min (5min).
I use TCD detector and inject 0.2 mL of sample

Therefore, I would like to ask that is carboxen-1000 capable of separating C2 C3 hydrocarbons?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

vinzdo,

0.2 mL of what concentration? Splitless or split? TCD is not terribly sensitive detector (atrociously insensitive if you ask me) so you may simply not be putting enough on column for the detector.

Best regards,

I injected C2H2 with the concentration of 15%C2H2 85%He. It is splitless.
Thanks a lot. I will try to inject more analyte.

Many thanks

Thanks a lot. I've read this before.
Moreover, I've tried the conditions in this paper, but I can't see any peak.

Many thanks.

How about room air? Can you see that all right?

Yes, the intensity of the peaks is very strong.
That's why I am wondering there are no hydrocarbons signals (except methane)

Many thanks.
