Hi there my laboratory is very interested in getting a Waters QDa to replace the single quadrupole we purchased over 10 years ago. I have suggested we should replace like with like or go with something more advanced such as a QQQ, however managment seem fixated on saving money and going with the cheaper option, even if it means we have less capability.

Has anyone used the QDa and do they have any feedback on whether its any good? We have actual mass spec operators who are experienced with traditional MS and purchasing and operating something advanced is not an issue...its seems to be purely a management thing

You should base such a decision not on what the MS was used for in the past, but what it is intended for in the future. If your applications won't be changing, you don't need an other instrument. If the "old" MS doest it's job still fine, you don't even need to replace it. Tell us what applications you are intending to use your instrument for, then we might be able to point you in the right direction for decision making.

Our current ZQ4000 will not be supported in a few years, which is why I am looking to replace it now.

We need something with a bit more sensitivity to get those really low level impurities. A more sensitive quad system would be fine, but a trap or QQQ will give us fragmentation capabilities that we don't have now.
