We have in our lab a GC-MS and a GC-FID both Agilent. As you may already know the GC-MS has the feature "Solvent delay" hence MS data is not collected during the solvent delay avoiding the overloaded solvent peak in the chromatograph. I was trying to setup this parameter in the GC-FID however I can't find this feature in the software properties. Apparently the solvent delay parameter is only available in the MS but I guess there must be another way to start acquiring data from a specific time in order to avoid the solven peak in the GC-FID. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Easy. In Integration Events, add a line Integrator OFF at time = 0. Then if you want to start collecting data at say 3 minutes, add a second line that has Integrator ON at 3.00 minutes. Then - as Yul Brynner would say: Etc., etc., etc.

you didn't mentioned about your hardware and software, so I've to give blind advise.
you can setup "Timed event" and turn detector on after specific time. then, you can bypass solvent peak and have a solvent delay.

If you run Agilent GC, there should be a posibility that allows you to start the FID electronics at specific time. You get into the time event in the instrument parameters.
I think other vendors can also have that feature.
