I am about to develop a method for analyzing hydroxylamine. Has anyone ever analyzed it? Shoud it be done by HPLC or GC? Any suggestion or idea is appreciated.

Thanks!

For such a polar and basic compound, HILIC on a silica column is probably best, with detection at 210 nm and acetonitrile as the organic modifier.

Thank you for your suggestion! But I am not familar with HILIC. Can our Waters Alliance or HP 1100 still be used? Which column do you recommend? Very appreciate your input!

Have you searched the web?
try www.google.com or the application notes given by several suppliers for chromatographic columns. Can be found on their website

Good luck

Dear Friend

According to me for Polar compound You may try with Atlantis dC18 HPLC column with Acetonitrile : Methanol 90 :10 mobile phase .

HILIC is the inverse of RP. You use a very polar stationary phase, such as the Atlantis HILC silica column, with a mobile phase with a large portion of organic (acetonitrile) and a small portion of water. You may actually try first to run a gradient from 95% acetonitrile / 5% water to around 50% acetonitrile / 50% water. Your analyte should elute somewhere in between these two compositions. With acetonitrile and 210 nm detection, you should see your compound.

Thank you all for your information. This is why I love this forum. I get fast education. I am purchasing Atlantis dC18 and HILIC column and will give them try!

what about reacting with an aldehyde to get an imine. Could do with aromatic one and get a chromophore and do with UV detector? plus get it to retain well..

The beauty of this forum is that you get alternatives as well.
