Syringes for filtering during sample preparation

Hi all,
In preparation for samples to be analyzed in RP chromatography we are finding that the syringe, not the filter, is showing peaks that interfere with the analyte. What is the best syringe you have found to be useful for this application ? At the end it does not matter how good your filter is if the syringe is the problem. Any help would be highly appreciated

Any help will be more easily provided if you provide more information about your problem. The type of sample and the analyte would be most useful as well as the type of syringes you are currently using.

Sure, we are filtering samples that are prepared in 50/50 Water/ACN. The problem is that this diluent clearly extracts something from the syringe barrel/plunger and interferes with our analyte, I just need to find the best chemically resistant, disposable, plastic syrringe out in the market, and anyone's experience would be welcomed. Thank you

If you think the contamination is coming from the black seal on the plunger, you could try AirTite All-Plastic Norm-Ject Syringes, they don't have a seal, all polypropylene, I believe.
And have you tried Whatman Autovial combined syringe/filters?

Thank you for the reply. The syringes we have evaluated do not have the black seal on the plunger and yet we see this interference. I have not tried the Whatman product you described, I iwll take a look at it. Thank you

Hi shadow
Try the old all glass syringe.
Best luck

Hi Fernando, believe me I thought about it but the problem becomes great when this method is used in a QC environment and the throughput is greater. Thanks

Try the old all glass syringe.
With glass syringes:
Risk of cross-contamination higher. If rinsing with solvents between samples, must be completely dry or next sample is diluted somewhat. Larger volumes needed if rinsing with sample is used to try to overcome that.

Many years ago I put syringe tip filters onto disposable autopipette tips. It works OK as long as the samples are not to mucky, and the sample contacts only polypropylene and the filter.
