Frequency of Instrument Calibration

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Hello - is there any specific (USP/ICH) guidance stipulating the frequency with which instruments need to be calibrated (i.e., bi-annually, annually)? Thank-you in advance for your response!
I don't know what your guidelines stipulate, but you should run a standard everytime you run samples and compare the responses against your calibration. If there is drift you should re-calibrate.

Perhaps you could explain by what you mean by calibration. In a GC it can mean two things. Either the calibration of the GC setpoints such as temperature , flows and pressures or the calibration of your samples as tangaloomaflyer explains. If you mean the Gc setpoints, the manufacturer of your GC should be able to give you guidelines.

Thank you all for your responses... I am of course familiar with the annual calibration, but was more interested in finding out about whether this is just a generally acceptable practice, or if it is specifically suggested as a guidance by some authority, and if so, who/who?
